Venue

The Chelyabinsk region is hosting an event of such level for the first time. World Judo Championships have never been held in Russia. The Soviet Union held the Worlds only once – in Moscow in 1983.

The World Judo Championships will take place in one of Russia’s most modern sports venues – Traktor Ice Arena. This is the home rink for 2012/2013 KHL vice-champion, Traktor Chelyabinsk.

Constructed in 2009, the Arena became a hot spot for the fans. The three-storey building has an area of 25,000 square meters, and its capacity is 7,500 spectators.  The ice court takes 1,800 square meters, but in summer 2014, the ice will be melted and covered with judo mats.

To recap, Traktor Ice Arena was the competition venue for large non-hockey tournaments: the 2012 European Judo Championships and 2013 RUSSIA OPEN international taekwondo tournament.

All the matches will be broadcast on huge screens, so the audience will not miss a thing. And there is a press room with the most modern equipment that will keep informed the people unable to come to the stands.
